ITS ALL FOR THE MOM TO BE
As a hostess, you could plan the perfect baby shower in your eyes and the mother-to-be could be completely devastated. Why? Maybe you didn't take into consideration the mother's personality (or lack there of :)) and wishes. If you remember nothing else in your planning, remember this: it's her day, do it her way. It is hard to suck it in, but you have to. This doesn't mean you cannot include your own personal touches to the shower or that you cannot have any surprises planned. It just means that you need to consider her personality. There are so many types of showers and celebrations you could plan;you'll want to choose the one that fits her best. For example, if she thinks that typical shower games are corny or boring, you'll have to plan other types of entertainment. Maybe she's already purchased (or been given hand-me-downs) of all the major baby necessities; this gives you the freedom to plan a theme shower that determines the type of gifts guests bring. (For example, you could plan a "favorite book" party where all the guests bring their favorite childhood book for the baby instead of other gifts). You may want to plan an around the clock party - where guests bring a gift to be used at a certain time of the day. She may not be comfortable with people bringing gifts at all - maybe she will just want to get together to celebrate the upcoming (or recent) birth of her baby. Overall, as long as it is reasonable and within your means, you should do everything in your power to grant her wishes.
